Content: This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) interrogation report for Superior Private JA145587 of the 238th Infantry Regiment 2nd Battalion 6th Company 1st Platoon 3rd Section, who was captured near Salamaua in mid-September 1943. JA145587, a 23 year old Superior Private from Gunma, was severely wounded by machine-gun fire during the retreat from Lae towards Salamaua and was captured by Australian troops. He was a rifleman in the grenade discharger section. During the interrogation, JA145587 provided information on unit organisation, movements, weapons, and various aspects of military life.
