Content: This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) interrogation report for JA147357 of the 49th Anchorage Unit, who was captured on 23 April 1944. JA147357, a civilian photographer, was picked up at sea near Aitape by US troops while trying to escape from Ali Island by canoe. An Allied destroyer sank the canoes with machine-gun fire. During the interrogation, JA147357 provided information on radar equipment and anti-aircraft guns at Wewak, Allied prisoners of war at Madang and Wewak, an Allied air attack on Madang on 8 March 1943, Allied aircraft losses at Erima, the Oriental Mining Company in Penang. The appendix contains organisational charts for the 49th Anchorage Unit, the 122nd Infantry Regiment, the 46th Anchorage Unit and Shipping Headquarters.
