| Content: | This item is a diary written in a notebook by an anonymous Japanese naval serviceman (born 10 November 1919). The author inscribed the title "My Navy Diary" on the front cover. The diary covers the period from 11 January 1942 to 6 December 1944, which corresponded to his enlistment to his duty in Manila. The author was an aircraft maintenance engineer, and the diary records his training and successive promotions and transfers. He started his career in the Yokosuka 2nd Barracks as a naval Fourth Grade Maintenance Engineer, and transferred to: Tsuchiura Naval Flying Corps on 14 April 1942; Hsin-chu Naval Flying Corps on 20 October 1943; Kanoya Naval Flying Corps on 27 January 1944; 361st Flying Corps in Kagoshima on 5 April 1944; and 221st Flying Corps in Kasanohara on 10 July 1944. His highest rank was Leading Seaman from 10 November 1943. He was stationed in Manila for the last month of his life. The diary was allegedly found on his body on 24 February 1945. The diary is accompanied by an English synopsis of the contents. |
