| Content: | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) translation of a Japanese publication captured at Biak on 15 June 1944 during the Allied attacks on Japanese positions in northern Dutch New Guinea, which were intended to isolate the 18th Army at Wewak. This item is a pamphlet entitled "Plan for sea movement, Bogo (Cebu) to Surigao (Mindanao)", issued by X Company, X Independent Engineer Regiment. It contains information on boat unit formations to be employed when under attack by Allied vessels, including communications and signals, navigation, tactics, duties of armoured boats, bases and hideouts, and fuel and oil. This item also includes a map of the route between Bogo and Surigao, and another referring to Matsui Unit's advance on Dutch Borneo. This document was brought from the Japanese campaigns in the Philippines, presumably to guide the invasion of New Guinea. |
