Content: This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) research report issued on 27 March 1945 on Japanese liaison boat units. It contains information on small, lightly constructed, one- or two-man operated motor boats (disguised under the term "liaison boats") used to damage or destroy Allied vessels by depth charge attacks. The report provides details and specifications for liaison boats, their operational and tactical objectives, an estimate of the number in operation, and the organisation and training of the units. The appendix includes diagrams of various liaison boat formations and a bibliography of ATIS source material relating to small boat units. Attacking at night, these vessels attempted to drop depth charges close to Allied vessels. The operators were typically not expected to survive.
