Content: This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) translation of a Japanese publication captured at Ormoc, Leyte, on 27 December 1944 during the US campaign to recapture the Philippines. This item contains extracts from a file of War Ministry secret general orders issued between 25 November 1943 and 28 June 1944. It deals with regulations concerning the yearly inspection muster of reservists and acceptance of special volunteer officers, reserve officer candidates and candidates for second lieutenant. It also contains information on miscellaneous training matters, including a reduction in the period of study for air students of the Military Academy.

As the war drew to an end, Japan suffered an acute shortage of men of fighting age. Reducing the time spent training recruits was one way of increasing the number of men available for combat.
