| Content: | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) research report on residents of New Britain known to be sympathetic to the Japanese. The enquiry was received on 1 October 1943 and an answer despatched on 22 October 1943. The report states that while specific information on pro-Japanese relations in New Britain was not yet available, certain documents mentioned Japanese official relations in Rabaul. It contains brief statements about residents of Rabaul and their connections to the Japanese, including those thought to have acted as spies. The report also contains comments taken from interrogation reports about the use of natives as spies in the Nakamura Unit and the identification bands worn by New Guineans in the service of the Nankai Force in New Guinea. |
