Content: This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) research report on the night dispersal of Japanese shipping in Rabaul and surrounds. The enquiry was received on 3 September 1943 and an answer despatched on 9 September 1943. Based on information garnered from interrogation reports, this document provides information about Japanese shipping activity in Rabaul Harbour between December 1942 and February 1943, including the time ships began to leave their berths and where they moved to. The report also contains a map of the Blanche Bay area indicating the references made in the report. The information contained in this report was important for the successful prosecution of the Allied bombing campaign against Rabaul, which commenced early in 1942 and continued until the end of the war.
