Content: This item is part of a war diary for the month of December, 1941, recording the movements of an army unit between Rabaul and Wewak. It describes the unit's removal aboard the Aikoku Maru from Buka, in the Solomon Islands, to Wewak, via Rabaul. The unit eventually landed east of Madang, from where they were ordered to advance towards Wewak. The diary contains a diagram of the Aikoku Maru with instructions on troop and equipment loading, as well as a detailed description of the unit's engagement with an American naval vessel while on route to Madang, and an area diagram detailing the ship's journey. Two telegraph receipts giving information on weapons transport and supplies are also attached to the diary. It was captured at Madang in May 1944.
