| Content: | This item is a Japanese-language propaganda leaflet produced by the Far Eastern Liaison Office during the Second World War. An English translation of the text is attached. The leaflet describes a string of failed campaigns conducted by the Japanese Navy from the Battle of the Coral Sea and the Battle of Midway in 1942 to the battle off the Philippines in 1944. The message emphasises the failure of the Japanese Navy to secure the supply lines. It draws attention to the rapid development of the shipbuilding industry in the US and the deployment of the British Navy to Asia, and question whether there is any chance that the situation might improve for the Japanese. The leaflet includes a map of Southeast Asia and Oceania on the back, which indicates the routes taken by the Allied Forces to reach Leyte and other islands of the Philippines. 200,000 of them were printed. 30,000 of these leaflets were dispatched to Hollandia on 12 and 16 February 1945, 80,000 to Darwin on 12 February 1945, and 90,000 to Morotai between 19 February and 1 March 1945. |
