Content: This item is a promotional extract from the Asahi Newspaper, published soon after the Japanese declaration of war on the United States. On one side of the sheet, there is a discussion of the need for Japan to "complete" the Greater East Asia War independently of its allies, "cleaning out" British and American imperialism from the region. It also promoted the role of the Asahi Newspaper in pursuing the war, by effecting good communications throughout the Japanese empire. There are photographs of various wartime activities such as factory production of munitions and aircraft, and a telegraph communication headquarters. On the back of the promotional sheet is a printed map of the world, with Japan at the centre, titled "The East and West Asian War Zones". Sections of the map have been coloured in by hand in red pencil, indicating that it may have been used for military purposes. This item was captured at Finschhafen in October 1944.
