Content: This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) translation of a Japanese publication captured at Cape Dinga near Nassau Bay on 15 July 1943 during the Japanese retreat from campaigns in the Owen Stanley Ranges. This item contains instructions from 51st Divison Chief of Staff, HONGO Tadao, to 102nd Infantry Regiment Commander, MARUOKA Kohei, regarding the deification of persons lost in the sinking of the transport vessel Nichiryu Maru, which was sunk enroute from New Britain to Lae on 7 January 1943. The document contains regulations regarding the handling of missing persons, the confirmation of court ranks and decorations, and a brief account of the sinking.
