| Content: | This item is a Japanese-language propaganda leaflet produced by the Far Eastern Liaison Office during the Second World War. An English translation of the text is attached. The message discusses the capture of Japanese bases on the Marshall Islands, the bombings of positions at Rabaul and Kavieng, the attack on Truk and the dismissal of two Japanese Chiefs of Staff as a result of these defeats. The message states that Prime Minister TÔJÔ's decision to dismiss the Chiefs of Staff can be seen as his admission of the failure of the Japanese Forces as well as his loss of confidence in Japan's victory. In conclusion, the message stresses that the Japanese Headquarters decided to abandon the South Pacific and to concentrate on the defence of the homeland and surroundings. 150,000 of them were printed. |
