Content: This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) interrogation report for JA145727 of the Kure Special Naval Landing Party (Tsuzuki Force), who was captured at Melanpipi about 20 miles from Lae on 28 February 1944. JA145727, a 22 year old 1st Class Stoker from Okayama Prefecture, was ill with malaria and could not keep up with his unit on retreat from Sio. He and his companions had searched for food as they did not have any rations. He was captured by local people and handed to Australian troops at Karai. During the interrogation, JA145727 provided information on his unit, movements, ships, equipment, Allied air attack and defence in Rabaul, and sinking of the battleship Mutsu. Sketches of an underwater freight carrier and a freight container as well as a sketch map of Kure are attached.
