Content: | This item is a Japanese-language propaganda leaflet produced by the Far Eastern Liaison Office during the Second World War. The text is written in the style of an old Japanese folk tale and the story is a satire on the Japanese military clique or the Emperor. The story implicitly ridicules the strategies taken by the Japanese forces and encourages Japanese troops to surrender to the Allied Forces. 300,000 of them were printed. 20,000 of these leaflets were dispatched to Darwin on 9 July 1945, 116,000 to Lae on 11 and 19 July 1945, 126,000 in toal to Morotai on 12, 16 and 27 July 1945 and 45,000 to Hollandia on 21 and 26 July 1945. |
