Content: This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) translation of a Japanese publication captured at an unknown location (presumably Melanesia) on 5 June 1944. This item is a file entitled "Ordnance materials text, part 1", issued by 10th Depot Division Ordnance Department and the 7th Division Home Depot Ordnance Department, dated September to November 1938. It contains a chart of 30 explosives used in field ammunition; 56 cross-section diagrams and notes on fuses, artillery and mortar projectiles, small arms cartridges, grenades and signal flares; charts explaining the markings on fuses and shells; specifications for a Type 94 grenade discharger, 38 cross-section sketches of smoke, illuminating and incendiary shells; a table of 56 types of ammunition and fuses used in 21 types of guns; specifications tables for ammunition for machine-guns, rifles and pistols (including tear gas bullets); classifications for 62 fuses; equipment used on annual manoeuvres; a chart giving method of use of five hand grenades; and a sketch of blasting caps and cartridge cases.
