LAO, a 24 year old labourer from Canton in China, surrendered to the Australian troops unarmed. He had been arrested by the Japanese as he had failed to bow to a sentry and was afterwards forced to work for them. He was transported to New Guinea in November 1942 and worked as a labourer in construction of shelters. |
