Content: This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) interrogation report for Superior Private IWASA Kôji of the Yamada Unit (Flying Column) 1st Company 1st Platoon 1st Section, who was captured at sea near the Trobriand Islands on 18 March 1943 after the sinking of Oigawa Maru. IWASA, a 33 year old Superior Private from Osaka, was captured by US and Australian troops while he and his companions were travelling towards Lae from a Papuan island. He did not state his unit identification other than Yamada Unit. During the interrogation, IWASA provided information on unit organisation, personalities, equipment, ship and aircraft, and social conditions in Japan. He elaborated his sentiments towards being captured.
