Content: This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) translation of a Japanese publication captured in Luzon on 1 March 1945 during the Allied campaign to recapture the Philippines. This item is a translation entitled "Interrogation report of American Navy fighter pilot shot down and captured near Cebu", issued on 20 October 1944 by Southwest Area Fleet Headquarters. It contains details of the capture of the prisoner, the organisation and movement of carrier forces, history of the prisoner, operations participated in, composition of US naval forces, organisation of the USS Lexington, number of personnel and aircraft on American carriers, carrier camouflage (including sketches) and matters relating to communications security (terminology, call words and radio frequency).

The pilot, from the USS Lexington, was captured near Mactan Island near Cebu on 24 September 1944. Lexington arrived in the Carolina Islands on 6 September for three days of strikes against Yap and Ulithi before commencing attacks on Mindanao, the Visayas, the Manila area, and shipping along the west coast of Luzon, in preparation for an assault on Leyte.
