Content: This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) interrogation report for JA148145 of the 13th Air Fleet, 401st Air Unit, 601st Sentotai, who was captured off Owi Island (near Biak Island) on 6 June 1944. JA148145, a 23 year old Superior Petty Officer, Naval Air Pilot from Niigata Prefecture, was shot down during an attack on Biak, captured by natives and handed over to US troops. JA148145 provided information on Japanese fighter tactical methods, operational duties, training, armaments and ammunition on Type QF "Zeke" Mk I aircraft, Allied air raids on Kendari airfield in April 1943, an Allied raid on shipping and personnel around Biak Island on 3 June 1944 and an Allied raid on Tinian on 25 February 1944. In August 1943 JA148145 escorted reconnaissance aircraft over Darwin. He was intercepted by approximately 40 Spitfires of which 13 were shot down. One Japanese aircraft failed to return.
