This item is a pamphlet entitled "Combat regulations for Island Garrison Forces (shubi) (provisional) and study of island defences", issued on 25 December 1943 by the Bureau of Education, Navy Ministry. It contains information on island defence including: combat regulations, general preparations, intelligence, liaison, fortifications, communications and supply. This document also contains a study of island defence which includes information on the general principles of island defence, the function of fortresses, judging the importance of an island, rear supply lines and a comparison with river defence.

This item was superseded by the "Manual for defence against landings (provisional)" issued in October 1944 by General Staff Headquarters and the Inspectorate General of Military Planning. This manual is published as EP-384.
