Content: This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) interrogation report for Chinese Labourer M217 who was attached to the 51st Division Infantry Headquarters and who was captured between Lae and Salamaua on 18 September 1943. M217, a 23 year old Chinese Labourer from Canton, was left behind by Japanese troops who had been evacuated by boat. He was trying to head back to Lae when he was captured by Australian troops. During the interrogation, M217 provided sketchy information on his movements, and morale. He mentioned that he was as happy to be with Australians as with Japanese.
