Content: This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) interrogation report for JA147466 of the 68th Field Anti-aircraft Battalion, who was captured at Aitape on 23 March 1944. JA147466, a 30 year old 1st Class Private from Ibaraki Prefecture, remained at Tokaten (near Aitape) due to a wounded foot while his unit retreated under cover of darkness. The next morning he was surprised and captured by US Marines. During the interrogation, JA147466 provided information on Japanese manufacturing firms (Hitachi War Industry plants), morale among the civilian population, the organisation of E78 Force at Tokyo, the organisation and movements of the 68th Field Anti-aircraft Battalion, the operation of a Type 88 Anti-aircraft gun and the roles of the 12-man crew, casualties to malaria in Hollandia between 5 December 1943 and 23 February 1944, casualties owing to an air attack on Aitape during late February and March 1944, armaments and movements of Tozan Maru and Kayo Maru, a description of the Tokyo Air Defence Force, a four-engine aircraft known at the Greater East Asia Decisive Battle Plane thought to be manufactured by the Nakajima Company in Gunma Prefecture and Japanese experiments with a bomber similar to the US B24. The appendix contains an organisational chart of the 68th Field Anti-aircraft Battalion and a sketch of the Hitachi Company Plant 160 kms north of Tokyo.
