Content: This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) interrogation report for Sergeant Major JA145535 of the 51st Field Engineer Regiment, who was captured in Tufi on 8 April 1943. JA145535, a 27 year old Sergeant Major from Ibaraki, was exhausted and unarmed when he was captured by Australian troops. He evacuated Shin-ai Maru after it was attacked and drifted on a boat until it reached shore at Cape Nelson. During the interrogation, JA145535 provided extensive information on military organisations, military practice, land mines, torpedoes, grenades, and poison gas. Sketches of a tankette and collapsible boat are included in the report as well as a sketch map of Kabakaul.
