Content: This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) translation of three Japanese publications captured at Finschhafen and Kesawai in October 1943, during the Huon Peninsula campaigns and the Japanese retreat across the Finisterre Range.
The first item (captured at Finschhafen) contains notes and intelligence reports on operations of the 80th Infantry Regiment between 5 July and 11 August 1943 and deals mainly with movement and dispositons of Allied troops in areas between Madang and Salamaua. The second item (captured at Finschafen on 26 October) contains eight maps (their dates from 17 May and 13 July 1943) showing Allied dispositions at Lae–Salamaua, Bena–Bena, Wau–Bulldog, Salamaua–Nassau Bay, Wau–Salamaua, Madang–Waimeriba–Marawasa and the Markham and Ramu valleys. The third item (captured at Kesawai on 4 October) contains a sketch of Allied dispositions on the left bank of the Ramu River, dated 30 July 1943, and an operations map showing battle progress in the Bobdubi–Mubo area between 24 June and 18 July 1943.
