Content: | This item is a small leaflet urging the Japanese forces in Borneo to surrender. The Japanese message on the back of the leaflet advises that the Allied Forces have recaptured Balikpapan, Tarakan and a large part of North Borneo and an attempt to escape will result in death from starvation, sickness or superior Allied weapons. It mentions that 9,500 Japanese soldiers in Okinawa surrendered to the Allied Forces, and encourages the recipient of the leaflet to follow the example. The message assures that Japanese POWs will be treated in accordance with international law and be given sufficient food and medical attention. |
