Content: This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) interrogation report for JA100050 of the 751st Naval Air Unit, 3rd Maintenance Unit who was captured in the sea off Kavieng on 22 February 1944 when Nagaura Maru was sunk by gunfire from Allied destroyers. JA100050, a 24 year old 1st Class Private from Toyohashi, was rescued at sea by the crews of a US destroyer and cruiser. During the interrogation, JA100050 provided information on Japanese prisoners of war of the Nomonhan Incident, casualties suffered during a raid on Vunakanau Airfield on 12 October 1943, an Allied prisoner of war brought to Vunakanau by natives in November 1943, the Allied prisoner-of -war camp in Singapore (north of Empire Dock), details of aerial burst bombs, parachute bombs dropped on Vunakanau on 12 October 1943, mechanical details of various Japanese aircraft, weaknesses and changes to the "Betty" bomber, air defence warning systems and losses from Japanese air raid on Guadalcanal in January 1943. The appendix contains sketches of a "Super Fighter" and a Type 1 2EB "Betty" tail turret and radar antenna.
