Content: This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) translation of a Japanese publication captured at Giruwa on 23 January 1943 during the Japanese retreat from campaigns in the Owen Stanley Ranges. This item contains intelligence reports on Japanese operations in Malaya, the Philippines and New Guinea between 8 March 1942 and 30 September 1942. The first part of this item contains detailed reports about the general political and military situation, weapons seized, enemy strength and combat methods, topography, troop movements, and 'mopping-up' operations in Malaya, the Philippines and Eastern New Guinea. The section on operations in Malaya contains a chart of those prisoners executed during 'mopping-up' operations. The later part of this item contains a collection of brief intelligence summaries of campaigns in Port Moresby, the Owen Stanley Ranges, Rabaul, and the Solomon Islands. Sketches and maps of troop dispositions and enemy positions run throughout.
