Content: This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) interrogation report for 1st Class Stoker TAKAESU Isamu of Kotoku Maru, who was captured between Buna and Pongani on either 25 or 26 of September 1942. TAKAESU, a 28 year old from Okinawa, was captured by local villagers with two other Japanese soldiers. He believed the others were shot by the locals. TAKAESU was a member of the Kure 5th Special Naval Landing Party and was in the Fujikawa Company which disembarked at Rabi from Kotoku Maru. During the landing, the boat was sunk. After survivors of his unit landed on the shore, he was ordered to go to Buna from Rabi to obtain a wireless transmission set. He was captured while he and his colleagues were eating coconuts given by the locals. He was not able to provide substantial information on his unit or the route from Japan to New Guinea.
