Content: This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) interrogation report for Superior Private TAMURA Hikoichi of the 55th Engineer Regiment 1st Company plus Materials Platoon, who was captured in Oivi on 11 November 1942. TAMURA, a 22 year old from Kagawa, was shot through his mouth when his unit was retreating. In his first interrogation session, he gave false information as he had been told not to reveal any military information. However, he wanted to correct this in the second session. His unit left Japan in December 1941 and, after landing and occupying Guam and Rabaul, it reached Buna in July 1942. TAMURA provided information on military landing craft, engineering equipment, training in Japan and Rabaul, medical treatment, and the unit's work in road contruction. He had realised that Japan might not be capable of winning the war after Allied Forces had attacked them at Buna.
