Content: | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) interrogation report for JA147721, a 28 year old civilian employee with the Akatsuki Shipping Transport Unit, who was captured by natives and turned over to US troops between Tanahmerah and Hollandia on 5 May 1944. During the interrogation, JA147721 provided information on the movement of Narita Maru between January and its sinking on 1 March 1944, the sinking of Denmark Maru and Yamazuru Maru, the numbers of small fishing boats in the New Guinea area, the construction of wooden ships, Allied prisoners of war in Osaka in January 1944, mine fields in Manila Harbour and the Bungo Channel (which runs between Kyushu and Shikoku). The appendix contains a sketch of Osaka Harbour, Kaoe Bay (Halmahera) and the Bungo Channel. |
