Content: This item consists of two colour map fragments covering the Sio area, and a single, two-tone map fragment covering the Bundi region of the Finisterre Range. Information on the side of one of the Sio fragments indicates that they are probably part of a Japanese reproduction of an Australian aeronautical map. The remaining fragments show Long Island and Tolokiwa Island in the Vitiaz Strait, and are overwritten with information about the area,, such as temperature, precipitation and wind speed and direction. The Bundi fragment is more detailed, showing mountain contours, roads and villages, and providing a legend indicating the size and importance of features shown. It is also overwritten with comments and instructions, mostly concerning the amount of time needed to travel between various locations. These fragments were captured at Aitape in July 1944.
