Content: This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) interrogation report for 1st Class Private M171 of the Shipping Artillery (Akatsuki 2954), who was captured on an island off the east coast of New Guinea on 2 October 1943. M171, a 28 year old 1st Class Private from Ehime, was wounded and in a collapsible boat which reached an island after the sinking of Oigawa Maru when he was captured by Australian troops. During the interrogation, M171 provided information on his unit organisation, Japanese ships and morale in Japan. Sketch maps of Rabaul and Truk Island are attached.
