| Content: | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) interrogation report for JA147047 of the 5th Independent Field Heavy Artillery Battalion, 1st Company, who was captured at Karai-ai in western New Britain on 24 February 1944. JA147047, a 1st Class Private, was captured by US troops while suffering from malaria. During the interrogation, JA147047 provided information on Allied prisoners of war in Saigon in October 1942 and Indian prisoners in Rabaul in mid-1943, the Allied air attack on a Japanese convoy in the Bismark Sea on 2 and 3 March 1943 that resulted in the sinking on 12 out of 16 vessels, and an Allied submarine attack on 5 December 1942 resulting in the sinking of Boston Maru. |
