Content: These items consist of nominal rolls, an embarkation list and a medical records book for the Kure 3rd and 5th Special Naval Landing Parties, and the Yokosuka 5th Special Naval Landing Party. These units were raised in January (Kure 3rd) and May (Kure 5th, Yokosuka 5th) of 1942, and were part of the Japanese force under the command of the 18th Cruiser Division that landed in Milne Bay in late Aug 1942. None of these items contain an ATIS registration number or stamp, but all are marked as having been received at ATIS SWPA on 16 Oct 1942. The repulsion of these forces by Australian forces under the command of Maj Gen Clowes was the first significant land defeat of Japanese forces in the campaign.
