| Content: | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) interrogation report for JA147486 of the 66th Field Anti-aircraft Unit, who was captured near Hollandia on 25 April 1944. JA147486, a 23 year old 1st Class Pte from Tokushima Prefecture, left hospital and wandered in the jungle for four days before natives took him to their village at the mouth of a river. He was later captured by the crew of an Allied ship while fishing. During the interrogation, JA147486 provided information on the organisation and movement of the 66th Field Anti-aircraft Unit, the Type 88 7 cm Field Anti-aircraft gun, military training in Japanese schools, Allied prisoners of war at Hollandia and Kôbe, his attitude towards service life, rationing and living conditions in Japan, his attitude towards capture and the war in general, his fear of bombing and strafing attack and air raids on Hollandia in late March 1944. The appendix contains an organisational chart for the 66th Field Anti-aircraft Battalion. |
