Content: This item consist of the military pocketbook belonging to HARADA Masao from the Kurume divisional district (Kyûshû). It contains extensive exhortations and instructions, including the "Armed services rescript (1882)", the "Field services code (1941)" and "Preparations for mobilisation". It also includes sections for details of service, such as name, address, unit, height, clothing sizes, academic record, awards and punishments, injuries and sicknesses, and troop movements. A Japanese soldier was expected to keep this book in good order and up to date. The pocketbook was probably captured in the Philippines in late 1944 or early 1945.
