Content: | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) interrogation report for Superior Private JA145638 of the 41st Division 238th Infantry Regiment 2nd Battalion 6th Company 3rd Platoon, who was captured at Markham Point on 22 October 1943. JA145638, a 24 year old Superior Private from Gunma, was wounded and could not keep up with the troops retreating from Lae when he was captured by US troops. He was a rifleman in his unit. During the interrogation, JA145638 provided information on his unit organisation, Kiyokawa Maru on which his unit travelled from Tsingtao to Wewak, equipment and weapons. He also mentioned that about one-third of the retreating troops committed suicide by exploding grenades. Sketches of Kiyokawa Maru are attached. |
