Content: | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) interrogation report for JA147718, Merchant Marine, who was captured in Demta (Dempta) on 3 May 1944. JA147718, a 21 year old merchant marine from Hyôgo Prefecture, was captured by US troops during the retreat towards Sarmi from Hollandia. During the interrogation, JA147718 provided information on movements, merchant navy ships, training for merchant seamen, political parties in Japan, attitude towards capture, attitude towards war and other races. He also provided information on various islands and harbours he had visited as seaman. Sketch maps of Palau Island and the surrounding area are attached to the report. |
