| Content: | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) interrogation report for 1st Class Private JA147513 of the 31st Sea Duty Company, who was captured on Manus Island on 30 April 1944. JA147513, a 24 year old 1st Class Private from Niigata Prefecture, retreated inland when US forces attacked the Admiralty Islands. He contracted malaria and was looked after by natives until his condition improved. He was then handed over to US troops. During the interrogation, JA147513 provided information on Japanese shipping, the construction of wooden ships for transporting supplies over short distances, and the impact of Allied air raids on Rabaul and the Admiralty Islands. The appendix contains an organisational chart for the 31st Sea Duty Company. |
