Content: This item consists mostly of copies and drafts of letters from the South East Area Army to the 8th Military District regarding Lieutenant General KAGESA's illness. It includes a Japanese translation of a reply from the 8th Military District regarding this matter. In the letter dated 6 April 1946 Lieutenant General KATÔ, Chief of Staff of the South East Area Army, requests various medicines to treat KAGESA's bronchial asthma. KATÔ's letter dated 12 April 1946 asks for permission to transfer HOTTA, KAGESA's nephew, from the Kagamihara (6th) Camp to nurse him at the Talili (12th) Camp. In reply to KATÔ's requests, the Australian forces recommended KAGESA to be hospitalised in the 118th General Hospital (AG1558). In the letter dated 18 April General IMAMURA expresses his gratitude but declines the offer on behalf of KAGESA on account of difficulty in communication and differences in food preferences and customs between Japanese and Australians.
