Content: | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) translation of a Japanese publication captured at Biak on 10 July 1944 during the Allied attacks on Japanese positions in northern Dutch New Guinea, which were intended to isolate the 18th Army at Wewak. This item is an intelligence report entitled "Intelligence report no. 2, 1–19 February", issued by the 7th Flying Division on 5 March 1944. This document is a report covering the war in the Asia-Pacific and European theatres, which an emphasis on the area to the north of Australia. It includes an estimate of the number of Allied submarines, Allied air strength in eastern New Guinea, and Allied aircraft production, charts on Allied air sorties in February, reports on Allied materiel, reproduction of captured documents (mostly concerning signals and flying regulations), and instructions on methods of attacking aircraft with hollow-charge cluster bombs. Sketch maps show the results of aerial reconnaissance in southwest New Guinea, Allied air patrols in western and northern Australia, Allied submarine attacks in northwest Australia in February, Allied air strength in east New Guinea. |
