Content: This item is a Japanese-language leaflet produced by the Far Eastern Liaison Office at the end of the war. It is accompanied by an English translation of the text. The leaflet reports that the Emperor issued an Imperial Rescript on 16 August 1945 which ordered the Japanese forces to cease hostilities at once. The message also mentions that the representatives of the Commander-in-chief of the 17th Army made contact with the Australian forces on 18 August at the ford of the Mivo River and received instructions concerning the surrender of the Japanese troops in the area.
