| Content: | This item is a pictorial propaganda leaflet produced by the Far Eastern Liaison Office during the Second World War. The picture depicts a Japanese farming woman and her son working in front of a run-down farm house. The Japanese message on the back of the leaflet states that a family of a serviceman is praying for his safe return. It encourages Japanese soldiers to surrender so that they can live and serve the country after the war. The message also mentions that more than a thousand Japanese POWs sent over to Australia have now regained their spirit and are awaiting the day they can have a fresh start in life. 250,000 of them were printed. About 100,000 of these leaflets were dispatched to Nadzab on 21 and 26 July 1944, and 100,000 to Hollandia on 23 October 1944, and 50,000 to Torokina on 17 December 1944. |
