| Content: | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) interrogation report for 1st Class Private NAKATA Takao of the 23rd Independent Infantry Battalion, who was captured on the Trobriand Islands on 10 March 1943. NAKATA, a 22 year old 1st Class Private from Okayama, was captured by Australian troops while he and other Japanese soldiers were resting in a local hut. They were on a lifeboat for seven days after their ship, Oigawa Maru, was sunk. During the interrogation, NAKATA provided information on his unit's organisation, and daily life in Japan in 1942. |
