Content: | This item is a Japanese-language propaganda newspaper produced by the Far Eastern Liaison Office during the Second World War. An English translation of the text is attached. Main events covered by the issue which is dated on 8 January 1944 include the sombre atmosphere of the New Year in wartime, Prime Minister TÔJÔ's New Year speech, the situation in the Philippines, the Allied landing on New Britain, the capture of Walingai by Australian forces, the Allied air attacks on Japanese positions in New Ireland and New Britain, the sinking of Japanese warships and commercial ships off Kavieng and the situation about Japan's home defence, The war situation in Russia, Italy and Yugoslavia are also mentioned. 40,000 of them were printed. |
