Content: This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) interrogation report for Superior Private YAMADA Masami of the 40th Independent Mixed Brigade 8th Shipping Engineer Regiment 1st Company 4th Platoon 3rd Section, who was captured on Goodenough Island on 9 March 1943. YAMADA, a 25 year old Superior Private from Tottori, was captured by Australian troops on Goodenough Island after he and his companions reached there after the sinking of Shinai Maru. The group attempted to escape and eight of them were killed. During the interrogation, YAMADA provided information on his unit organisation, Japanese ships, his duties in his unit, and morale.
