Content: | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) interrogation report for Superior Private MAEDA Kanami of the Independent Infantry Unit (Go 7244) 1st Battalion 1st Company 1st Platoon 1st Section, who was captured on 23 March 1943. MAEDA, a 27 year old Superior Private from Yokohama, drifted in a raft for about twenty days after the sinking of Oigawa Maru. He was picked up by local people and handed over to Australian troops. During the interrogation, MAEDA provided information on his unit, which was originally Tobu 88 Unit and then Go 7244 although the code Go 7244 does not correspond with any of the units. The interrogators were also aware of the discrepancy concerning the Unit but could not cross-check as MAEDA was the only survivor from it. He provided information on his unit organisation, social conditions in Japan and damage suffered by the convoy with which Oigawa Maru was travelling. |
