Content: This item is a Japanese-language leaflet produced by the Far Eastern Liaison Office when the war in the Pacific ended. The message is addressed to Lieutenant General KANDA, Commander-in-Chief of the 17th Army, from Lieutenant General Savige, Commander of the 2nd Australian Corps. The message advises Lieutenant General KANDA of the cease-fire between Japan and the Allied Forces as of 10:00am on 15 August 1945. Lieutenant General Savige requests Lieutenant General KANDA to order his troops on Bougainville and the surrounding islands to cease hostilities immediately, to send representatives to an Australian officer who will be stationed at the main ford of the Mivo River and to issue orders that no weapons and stores be destroyed.
