Content: This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) interrogation report for Sergeant SASAKI Masaji of the Shipping Engineer Regiment 14th Company 3rd Platoon 3rd Section, who was captured on Goodenough Island on 6 April 1943. SASAKI, a 23 year old rank from Osaka Prefecture, drifted on a raft with others after Kenbu Maru was sunk. The raft reached an island and local people eventually found them and handed them to Australian troops. During the interrogation, SASAKI provided information on unit organisation, a detailed itinerary of his movements, equipment and conditions in Rabaul and Japan.
Other information
Notes:
SASAKI told his unit number was Akatsuki 2954, but it is not possible to identify this number against a Shipping Engineer Regiment.
